Shabby Chic

I thought I'd give the porch bench a shabby chic makeover. The cushion covers cost £1.99 in a local charity shop, the beautiful cotton and lace coverlet was £1.49 and the cute, little jug cost a mere 50 pence. The flowers were a gift from my brother-in-law's new girlfriend. I can't decide whether to have the cushions on either side (bottom) or together on the left (top). Let me know what you think. Any comments would be gratefully appreciated.

The End is in Sight

I cannot believe it! One box of floor tiles is a different size, I have discovered, how much of a difference 2mm is when laying floor tiles. I am going to take them back and exchange them for another box. Meanwhile all I need to do once the last few tiles are laid around a difficult area, been cutting these ones, is grout in-between. The whole thing should be finished by the weekend with pics for you all to see. I am very pleased with the way it is looking so far.

Tiling

I hope you all enjoyed the photos of my street. I will be busy over the next few days tiling the porch floor. Wish me luck!

Mary Englebreit

Have any of you come across the work of Mary Englebreit? She is such an inspiration in terms of colour, pattern, design. I just love her illustrations they have given me some great ideas. Look her up when you get a moment.

Ooooh! I was given a lovely cushion at work today. It will contribute to the use of different textures in the porch. The painting is complete! Now for the floor. The tiles are bought and ready to be laid. I just need to decide on a colour for the grout. I am looking forward to laying the tiles and working hard to get them all level. Watch this space...

Tomorrow I am doing a special feature so look out for this.

Just in case you are wondering. The porch is still being decorated. Two coats of primer and one coat of gloss is on the woodwork waiting to dry. Next step - lay the floor tiles, I have not done this before so it should be interesting. More photographs once the tiles have been laid.

I am still working on the porch and plan to lay tiles on the floor this week. Have purchased some great accessories at car boot sales this weekend which will be displayed in the completed porch.

The Porch 'Before'

As promised, here are pictures of the porch area. As you can see the floor, found under a floor covering, is in a bad way. Therefore, I am going to lay cream tiles, recently bought at a bargain price from B & Q. The walls and ceiling will be painted white. Let the decorating begin...

Hi everyone,

thought you would like to see what I am doing with my internal porch. I will upload the before photographs in a couple of days. Meanwhile, I am scouring car boot sales and ebay for decorative items. I want the space to look nice, as it is the first room people see as they enter my house. This is decorating on a very tight budget so watch this space...

What I plan to do in the porch.

I don't know about you but as I am leaving the house in the mornings I often realise that I have forgotton to put jewellery on. So I plan to create a wall display in my porch so that I can grab jewellery on the way out e.g. earrings, necklace, bracelet. Pottery Barn has some lovely 'jewelry' frames - http://www.potterybarn.com/products/jewelry-display-frames/popup/more-views.html. Although beautiful, I would highly recommend these frames, I am going to attempt to create my own using frames from charity shops. Watch this space...
